Romans 12:1
When you study the Bible and come across the word, "therefore", it is always a good idea to ask, "What is it there for?" When the Apostle Paul uses the word "therefore" at the beginning of chapter 12, we must realize he is building on what he's taught in previous chapters. Romans 11:23, 24
The Gospel of John declares that Jesus came unto His own, but His own did not receive Him. The religious leaders and the people of Israel overwhelmingly rejected their Messiah and today the majority of Jews continue to reject Him. Romans 11:19-22
In the days following Peter's sermon on Pentecost, the church was almost exclusively made up of Jews who believed in Jesus as their Messiah. Romans 11:16-18
You may wish you could be related to some famous person, but you cannot simply graft yourself into that person's family tree. And yet, God has grafted Gentile believers into the spiritual family tree of Abraham. If you believe in Jesus Christ, you too are a part of the olive tree made up of Jews and Gentiles throughout history who have trusted in the Lord for salvation. Romans 11:12, 15
Middle East peace summits have discussed the possibility of Israel surrendering territory to the Palestinians or the surrounding Arab nations in exchange for peace. But the Bible suggests something quite different. God has declared that he will expand Israel far beyond its current borders into much of today's Arab world. Romans 11:11-15
A star baseball player will not be cut from the team if he is injured. The manager can keep him on the bench as a pinch hitter and get a player from the Minor Leagues to fill his position. If they win the World Series, both players will be champions. God has not cast off Israel, but has set them aside for a time so that the Gentiles might receive the riches of salvation in Jesus Christ. Romans 11:7-10
If clay begins to dry, it can become so hard that a potter cannot use it anymore. But if it has not completely hardened, the potter can add moisture and work with the clay until it becomes soft and usable. The human heart is naturally hard and hostile against God, but He alone is the master potter who can work in us to soften our hearts and use us for His glory. Romans 11:5-6
There is no such thing as a married bachelor. Marriage and singlehood are mutually exclusive and the man is either married or unmarried. According to the Bible, salvation by grace and salvation by works are mutually exclusive systems. You cannot have salvation by grace + works. It must be one or the other. Romans 11:2-5
As he fled for his life from Jezebel, the prophet Elijah came to the place of utter despair. It seemed to him that the entire nation had turned away from God and that he alone had remained faithful, but God replied that he had reserved for Himself 7,000 men who had not bowed the knee to Baal.
